-+o0o+- Harlextan Afghan Hounds are situated in a very small rural village called Thoroton which is 14km/9 miles from Newark - 16km/10 miles from Grantham and about 22km/14 miles distant from Nottingham - which is the 'capital' of the East Midlands region - close to both the A1 & M1 motorway links.
-+o0o+- Nottingham is famed for the Legend of Robin Hood, Sherwood Forest, Torvill & Dean, the Oldest Public House in England called 'The Trip To Jerusalem' which nestles below Nottingham Castle, Nottingham Lace and Lord Byron. Other famous names from Nottingham include D H Lawrence and Alan Sillitoe. it is also the location of the National Ice Centre, the National Water Sports Centre as well as the famous cricket ground at Trent Bridge. Other sporting locations include the football teams of Nottingham Forest and Notts County, which is the oldest football League club in the world. -+o0o+- Nottingham is the UK head office location for a number of large manufacturers and employers including Boots the Chemists, Raleigh Cycles, Eriksson Telephones, Capital One Bank, Experian and Players Tobacco. -+o0o+- Grantham is famous for being the birth place of Sir Isaac Newton and Lady Margaret Thatcher. it also has the highest church spire in Lincolnshire and the oldest Coaching Inn in Britain at 750 years old!. 'Harlaxton Manor' is the fabulous sit of the USA Evansville University, and is the inspiration for our kennel affix - 'Harlextan'. -+o0o+- Nearby Newark is noted for its historic 11th century castle and buildings, the river Trent as well as being the home of one of the busy major UK dog show centres.
